People ask me about the Alberta Speakers website and its related websites (a division of Creativity Corner Inc.) They want to know what it is all about. Some of them want to join with us. Here are the answers I share. |
What is it? Essentially it is a joint venture marketing idea I had back in 2006 while driving home from speaking in the Banff area. I had stayed overnight and attended a CAPS Calgary meeting and had been warmly welcomed. On the drive home, I wondered if there was something I could do to help my fellow CAPS colleagues in both our Calgary and Edmonton Chapters as well as prospective members. And an idea was born! I sent out notes to a few colleagues with the idea and a request for feedback. We had some amazing response and started the main www.albertaspeakers.com website in Feb. 2007. We expanded to add www.edmontonspeakers.com and www.calgaryspeakers.com later that year. Over the years we have added several other sites: www.vancouverspeakers.com; www.Saskspeakers.com; www.Torontospeakers.com How does it work? Alberta Speakers (a division of Creativity Corner Inc.) has an advertising component (hence a higher investment) where we place paid advertisements to help create traffic for the site. In addition, each of us, as jv partners, agrees to promote it with a live link from our respective sites and through our social media. This helps each of us generate interest in our site. This is a work together project! The other regional sites don't have a direct advertising component (and are priced accordingly); but we do agree to self promote and add links from our sites to promote them. Does it work? Yes! It works well, but not for everyone though. Over the past 7 plus years we've had people join us for a year, sometimes more who have left because their circumstances have changed, they left the speaking business, or they found they weren't generating enough leads. Alternatively, many of those on our sites have been with us from the beginning, for which I am grateful. It's nice to see a little idea like this grow legs. I have said repeatedly, "As long as people get value from this idea we will keep doing it." This is my pay it forward to my industry and to my colleagues. In my case, I can usually track at least one lead or booking that started from one of these websites, so I am happy to keep doing it for all of us. We pay someone to manage the sites and the rest is self-promotion. I make no promises other than to keep the sites current and do my best to promote. I challenge my jv partners to do the same. What is my investment? Alberta Speakers: First year $400 and $300 for subsequent years. Includes a complimentary profile on either Calgary or Edmonton sites as appropriate. Additional regional sites are available for only $100 per year. Regional sites: First year $150 and $100 for subsequent years. Each additional regional site is only $100 and many speakers add more than one. So, there you go. If this would be of interest to you email me or call me: 1-780-736-0009 and we can explore putting you up for our 2016 season. Bob
